Car chase drug suspect remanded

A SUSPECTED drug dealer appeared in court yesterday after his dramatic arrested on Monday night following a high-speed chase through Nicosia’s Aglandja area.

The 26-year-old suspect was eventually apprehended on foot – but not after he smashed into three cars – two of them police vehicles – and slightly injured a young boy.

CyTA boss vows to track down phone-tappers

CYPRUS Telecommunications Authority (CyTA) chairman Stavros Kremmos pledged yesterday to leave no stone unturned in the search for those who allegedly leaked private phone conversations.

“On our part we have carried out an investigation and we are waiting for more specific information, such as when this took place, where and who; this has not been answered,” Kremmos said.

New Middle East airline to service Cyprus

JAZEERA Airways, the Middle East’s first private scheduled airline, has announced it will begin direct flights to Larnaca starting on March 26.

Jazeera will fly direct three times a week from Kuwait, operating brand new Airbus A320s all fitted with leather seats.

‘Limassol coastline is under threat’

Greens say asbestos deposit and dredging plans potentially harming the environment

ENVIRONMENTALISTS are reporting the Port Authority to the European Commission for turning the Limassol coastline grey by allegedly dumping clay and gravel in the sea, while also ignoring over 60 tonnes of asbestos lying 600 metres from the Limassol port for a quarter of a century.

Referees blamed for ‘ruining Cyprus football’

REFEREES were blamed for single-handedly destroying Cyprus football during yesterday’s House Education Committee – though not one referee attended the meeting to defend the profession.

The Cyprus Football Association’s Referee Committee resigned last week, amid accusations by a number of club chairmen claiming referees were receiving payment for fixing matches.

ESSO rewards young drivers

ONE HUNDRED young drivers under 25 who have not committed a traffic offence or been penalised in the point system for a period of three months were yesterday given a prize of free fuel for one month.
