The authorities are so afraid of standing up to groups of people campaigning for a supposed cause that people have come to believe that even breaking the law is an acceptable way of pursuing their objectives.

Education and penalties on euro committee’s agenda

The Committee had re-convened to discuss the four bills submitted last week by the Finance Ministry regarding Cyprus’ introduction to the Eurozone on January 1, 2008.

Police crack down on illegal money exchanges

A POLICE clampdown on places offering illegal money exchange services is under way on the orders of the Chief of Police.

Charalambos Koulentis said that something needs to be done to stop the flood, which has overrun both tourist and urban areas.

Kiosks and other shops are running unlicensed money exchange services, which authorities say are not controlled by the state.

Police search dam for missing Turkish Cypriot

AUTHORITIES yesterday had still drawn a blank in the search for a Turkish Cypriot businessman who disappeared on Thursday, extending their search to the Achnas dam over the weekend.

Bases police, working in close cooperation with Cyprus police, have intensified their search for 58-year-old Ahmed Mesut Mendesie, from Pergamos, who was last seen in the Avgorou area.
