Minister: no need to order ceiling on fuel prices

COMMERCE Minister Antonis Paschalides said yesterday he would not issue a decree setting a ceiling to fuel prices after the compliance of oil companies in making reductions in prices

Paschalides said two companies had already announced price reductions, and announcements were soon expected from two more companies for “substantial reductions”.

Government approves cash for Gaza

THE CABINET yesterday approved €150,000 in emergency financial assistance to tackle the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou once again emphasised the need to end Israeli attacks in the region, causing “carnage and removing the prospect for peace in the region”.

Burst pipe leaking water for four weeks

FOR four weeks a burst water pipe has been left exposed in the middle of a Nicosia road, with local residents complaining that no one has bothered to fix it.

Earlier this month, technicians of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) dug up several ditches on Glafcou Street, off Nikis Avenue, for the purpose of laying power cables.

Accomplice says Al Capone fled to the north

POLICE were yesterday no closer to catching escaped convict Antonis Prokopiou Kitas.

Despite police assurances that the 42-year-old double rapist and murderer, more commonly known as Al Capone, was most likely in the free areas and would be caught, an associate has placed the high profile criminal in the occupied areas, it emerged yesterday.
