What is the speed limit in Larnaca?

Sir, I would like to ask the mayor of Larnaca the following question: what is the speed limit in Larnaca town? Cars and motorbikes are regularly racing down Archbishop Makarios Avenue at speeds well over 100 km/h. As a tourist from an EU country, I am used to walking along the pavements, but in Larnaca the pavements are occupied by cars, so when walking in Larnaca if has to be on the streets.

Akamas communities up in arms over EU environment programme

THE Environmental Services are negotiating with communities in the Akamas peninsula to get support for their inclusion in the EU’s ecological network, Natura 2000. A number of communities oppose the move due to fears it would create obstacles to future development in the area. The government is obliged to designate special areas of conservation in Cyprus and submit them to Brussels by May 1.

Both sides gather teams of experts ahead of gruelling negotiations

FROM tomorrow, Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides are expected to engage in intensive daily negotiations, while technical committees will provide the two sides with support on specific issues. According to reports, UN special envoy Alvaro de Soto will suggest two meetings a day – morning and afternoon – as well as a working lunch between the two leaders once a week.

Man shot three times in Nicosia

A 34-year-old man was last night fighting for his life after being shot three times yesterday afternoon. Reports said Yiannos Iosif was shot in the neck, chest and stomach inside his Nicosia shop at around 6.30pm. The incident was witnessed by Iosif’s partner who was unhurt in the incident. Neighbours said they were unaware that the shooting had taken place.
