Tackling the mountain of plastic

OVER 2,000 tons of plastic bags are used in Cyprus every year, with the Environment Commissioner calling for reduction, recycling and reuse.

Charalambos Theopemptou yesterday told the Mail that the bags take many years to degrade, kill many animals who eat them and litter our island.

ATM machines torched in Nicosia

POLICE are on the lookout for the vandals who caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to two separate ATM machines in Nicosia.

Investigators suspect that the culprits had attempted to steal money, which is stored behind in a containment unit, by torching the ATM machine in front of it.
