16 years for man who killed girlfriend

A MAN who admitted to killing his girlfriend in cold blood in December last year was yesterday jailed for 16 years by the Nicosia Criminal Court.
Father of two, Kyriacos Kakoullis, 37 from Nisou, had previously pleaded guilty to the charges of manslaughter and arson.

Young man avoids jail over drug find

A STUDENT from Nicosia escaped jail yesterday, despite pleading guilty to possession with intention to sell around 300g of cannabis.

Yesterday’s ruling by the three-judge panel, which imposed a suspended sentence on the 24-year-old, noted that the defendant was not himself a dealer but had instead temporarily stashed the drugs at the behest of his boss.

BoC plans Ukraine acquisition

BANK OF Cyprus expects to buy a bank in Ukraine in the next three months as part of its expansion drive into eastern Europe, its deputy chief executive said yesterday.

Bank of Cyprus is the island’s largest lender with about 29 per cent of the banking market. It holds 3.7 per cent of the Greek market, both in terms of deposits and advances.
