Paphos car ring prefers pick-up trucks

POLICE in Paphos have stepped up security measures in the town after a spate of car thefts saw 17 vehicles stolen in the past 30 days.

In total, more than 100 vehicles have been stolen over the last year, a higher than average figure when taking the town’s population into account.

Man strolls out of hospital only to return in a stretcher

STAFF at Nicosia General Hospital were left red-faced yesterday after it was revealed that one of their in-patients walked out of his sick bed and drove off, only to be in a car accident and return in an ambulance a few hours later.

Question have been raised over how long it would have hospital personnel to establish the man was missing had he not been in the car accident.

Rowdy flight

POLICE rushed to Larnaca Airport yesterday morning after an alert from an incoming flight that supporters of APOEL football team were causing public affray onboard.

According to police reports, the pilot of the plane, which was arriving from Minsk in Belarus, alerted ground control complaining of a disturbance on board.

Rape sentence

TWO PAPHOS men were sentenced to six years each yesterday for the rape of a 23-year-old woman from the Polis Chrysochous area. Glafcos Socratous, 31, and Charalambos Loizou, 22, were found guilty by the Paphos court for the rape of the woman in August last year. The woman told police that two men had abducted and raped her repeatedly between 11pm and 1am on August 19.

Tremor in Klirou

A SMALL earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter Scale yesterday sent minor tremors throughout the Nicosia area of Klirou. No injuries or damages were recorded.

Yesterday, the State Seismology Centre announced that a small earthquake took place at 12.28pm with the epicentre being the village of Klirou.

The slight tremors were also felt in other areas of Nicosia.
