Meningitis fears ahead of Jasmitha op

SIX-year-old Jasmitha Maharajasingh could have meningitis, her doctors said yesterday.

The prognosis was made based on liquid found in the Sri Lankan child’s brain.
“They can’t confirm the meningitis until the operation,” Lisa Moakler said.

Police officers claim honours discrimination

AROUND 100 police officers are taking to the courts to challenge a government decision to award them post-retirement honorary promotions for their resistance to the 1974 coup.

The disenfranchised policemen say that 1,400 of their colleagues have been given promotions before retirement, and argue that this is discrimination against them.

Man held for dealing cocaine

A MAN is in police custody after selling 300 grams of cocaine to an undercover police officer in Nicosia on Monday night.

The 25-year-old suspect, a Syrian who is married to a Cypriot and lives in Strovolos, was yesterday remanded in police custody for seven days and is currently under investigation for illegal possession of drugs with intent to sell.

Man jailed for driving despite ban

A NICOSIA man was yesterday jailed for 45 days after being caught driving despite receiving a driving ban five months before.

The 22-year-old had pleaded guilty to four charges of driving without a licence, insurance and road tax and violated a court ban on his licence.
