Vandals ruin Christmas cheer

A BRITISH man was left devastated after delinquents vandalised his collection of Christmas lights in the run up to Advent.

“Around €2,500 worth of lights and ornaments were destroyed or stolen. None of them were insured unfortunately. Everyone is very upset about this incident. I didn’t think kids here would do such a thing,” said Peter Holman.

Halloumi blamed for school poisoning

THE HEALTH Ministry said yesterday bad halloumi was the culprit in last week’s school food poisoning outbreak.

“From the investigation that followed the incident through the food trail involved in making the sandwich at the school canteen, it seems it was the halloumi that caused the food poisoning,” the Ministry said in a written statement.

Rafaella Pitsillides snuck out of her parents’ home in Deftera in the Nicosia district on the night of October 30. Since then they have not seen or heard from her.

Cyprus steps up co-operation with Qatar

CYPRUS and Qatar yesterday signed seven bilateral agreements to enhance co-operation between the two countries.

The bilateral agreements were signed after talks at the Presidential Palace between President Demetris Christofias and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr al Thani and delegations from the two countries.

Stocks fall 7 per cent

THE CYPRUS Stock Exchange (CSE) index plunged nearly 7.0 per cent yesterday, following trends in Europe, Asia and the US, all of which closed in a weaker position than on Monday.

Markets were reacting to expected negative financial results from global corporations.

Christmas postal deadlines loom

CHRISTMAS may be over a month away – but deadlines for overseas mail are already approaching and the postal service is reminding customers to make a note of this year’s latest recommended posting dates.

For all surface mail to the UK and Europe, the deadline has been set at December 5, with the airmail final date being December 15.
