UK inquest hears how British woman died after Cyprus facelift

A BRISTOL receptionist died after having a facelift at a clinic in Larnaca, an inquest in the UK has heard.

Patricia Jenkins-Lyons, 62, from Whitchurch outside Bristol, travelled to Cyprus for cosmetic surgery in November 2005.

She died two days after having the operation at a private clinic in Lanarca from a pulmonary embolism in her lung.

Call to regulate use of laser treatments

EDEK MP and dermatologist Marinos Sizopoulos yesterday called for a new law restricting the use of laser therapy for aesthetic reasons.

According to the deputy, who submitted the matter for discussion at yesterday’s House Health Committee, Cyprus holds one of the highest places in the EU for the importation and use of laser machines by unqualified persons.

Protection for Maronite language

CYPRUS has submitted a Declaration on the Recognition of the Cypriot Maronite Arabic Language following a recommendation from the Council of Europe.

The Declaration was made in recognition of the concept of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages that Cyprus has ratified.
