Government considers road tax options

THE GOVERNMENT is at the final stages of preparing a bill that will regulate road tax procedures.

Among the proposed scenarios currently being evaluated by the Communications and Finance Ministries is scrapping road tax altogether. Either way, Communications Minister Nicos Nicolaides yesterday confirmed the new system would be “socially generous”.

CYPRUS has so far been mostly unaffected by the global financial crisis that has rocked industrial economies and emerging markets around the world.

Declaration with Russia of little real value

PRESIDENT Christofias flew to Moscow yesterday on an official visit, during which he will discuss a range of issues with the Russian government. He will be accompanied by three ministers – foreign affairs, finance, commerce and industry – and is expected to sign seven agreements of co-operation mainly covering finance, tourism and politics.
