Minister urges patience over title deeds issue

INTERIOR MINISTER Neoclis Sylikiotis has called for patience as the government attempts to sort out the morass surrounding the non-issuance of title deed within a reasonable period.

Sylikiotis was responding to a report in the Sunday Mail that said British buyers had managed to bring their case to the attention of the British House of Lords.

Plan to invigorate tourism investment

INVITATIONS will be issued from Monday for investment in the tourism sector following the launch yesterday of a package of incentives worth €13 million.

The incentives package, which will use some of the EU structural funds, was launched by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) and the Minister of Commerce Antonis Paschalides.

Health ministry budget focuses on upgrades

THE HEALTH Ministry’s general aim for 2009 is to upgrade and improve the state’s health services, Minister Christos Patsalides said yesterday.

Presenting his ministry’s budget for 2009, Patsalides said he aimed to reorganise the ministry and prepare the grounds for the implementation of the National Health Scheme by 2010.

Papadopoulos’ condition improves

FORMER president Tassos Papadopoulos’ condition was yesterday deemed stable, after doctors found his health had improved.

Papadopoulos, who has been in Nicosia General Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit since Saturday, had been through a series of tests early yesterday morning, while doctors banned visitors as he is “too tired”.

Human Rights subcommittee tackles missing persons issue

THE HUMAN Rights Subcommittee of the Council of Europe’s parliamentary assembly yesterday met at Le Meridien in Limassol. The meeting focused on the missing persons from the 1974 Turkish invasion and was addressed by House President Marios Garoyian and MP Christos Pourgourides who represents Cyprus on the subcommittee.

State defends Christofias’ actions in Russia

THE GOVERNMENT is disappointed over what it called attempts to downgrade President Demetris Christofias’ recent trip to Moscow.

Christofias came under fire from opposition DISY for acting more like the leader of the communist party AKEL than the President of Cyprus during his Russia trip.
