Soldier killed in car accident

A 19-YEAR-old soldier, Andreas Iacovou was killed, and an 18-year-old soldier, Constandinos Neophytou, seriously wounded in an accident on Makarios Avenue in Limassol in the early hours of yesterday.

They had jumped a red light and were not wearing seatbelts. The car they crashed into was driven by a drunk driver.

TEPAK interim board resigns

TEPAK’s Interim Governing Board and Chairman yesterday submitted their resignations to the Minister of Education, Andreas Demetriou. The instigator of the mass resignations of the 12-member board appears to be its Chairman, Dr Antonis Constantinides, who based the decision on issues of inclusion and representation.

Turkey’s warships bully boats off Cyprus

FOREIGN Minister Markos Kyprianou yesterday accused Ankara of gunboat diplomacy after revelations that Turkish war ships harassed Cypriot-commissioned exploratory ships for the second time in two weeks.

Kyprianou described Turkey’s actions as “a policy of the 19th century”.
