Hospital rejects ‘chaotic’ claims

Patients complain of hours spent waiting for a H1N1 flu test

THE CARE of patients waiting for H1NI tests at Paralimni Hospital has been branded as “chaotic and shambolic” by several members of the public.

Since last week the hospital has been inundated with concerned patients desperate to be tested for swine flu, which has taken hold in the south east of the island.

Two men held in custody over clifftop murder

TWO MEN suspected of murdering a 39-year-old Ukrainian man whose body was found in Paphos were yesterday remanded in custody for eight-days.

The men, who deny the charges, told police one of the two had argued with Sergei Nalivanski but that their involvement with him had ended there.

Two drown off Larnaca coast

TWO women drowned yesterday only hours apart at two different beaches in the Larnaca district, police said.

Rodo Menelaou, 69, from Dhali was pulled out of the water in Oroklini at around 10am yesterday. A 73-year-old Russian holidaymaker drowned at Finikoudes beach three hours later, said police.

Painkillers to be withdrawn from the market

THE PHARMACEUTICAL services have ordered that all medicines containing the chemical dextropropoxyphene are to be withdrawn from the market by the end of the year.

The decision follows a report by the European Medicines Authority (EMEA), which concluded “that their risks, particularly the risk of potentially fatal overdose, are greater than their benefits.”
