Yeroskipou ready for international beach volley tournament

THOUSANDS of people are expected to attend the CEV Challenger 2009 Beach Volley Tournament women’s event which starts today at Yeroskipou.

Women’s teams from all over the world will compete in the qualification tournament, the quarter and semi-finals with the hope of being crowned champions in the finals that will be held on Sunday July 19.

Leaders mark 35 years since July coup

POLITICAL AND religious leaders yesterday paid tribute to those killed defending the Republic, during the July 15, 1974, military coup against the democratically elected President of Cyprus.

The coup, engineered by the Greek military junta, then ruling Greece, was followed by the Turkish invasion five days later, which resulted in the occupation of Cyprus’ northern third.

Brawl at Nicosia General

CHAOS broke out in Nicosia General Hospital yesterday morning when three young men attacked a policeman in the Accident and Emergency section.

According to the police report, the three young men were at the hospital to visit a young woman being treated there.

Man injured in motorbike accident

A 24-YEAR-OLD man was seriously injured in a motorbike accident in Lemba yesterday. The 24-year-old was driving without a helmet on Makarios Avenue in Lemba when, in circumstances under investigation, he collided with a car in front, causing the motorbike to overturn on the road.
