Kestrel drops in at ambassador’s home to mark Belgium’s national day

A BABY kestrel was rescued by the family of the Belgian Ambassador to Cyprus yesterday, after falling “from the sky” and into their garden in the capital.

The fledging kestrel, probably no more than three weeks old, landed in the Strovolos residence of Belgian Ambassador Guy Sevrin on Wednesday afternoon. The young bird was described by one onlooker as “incredibly tame”.

Paltry 10 cents not enough in milk price drop

THE REDUCTIONS of up to €0.10 per litre in the price of milk announced by five big supermarkets on Wednesday – down to around €1.15 – are “a positive move”, but there should be further reductions twice the size, Commerce Minister Antonis Paschalides said yesterday.

The limits of Europe

A FEW days ago, Jerzy Buzek, a former Polish Prime Minister, was elected President of the European Parliament.

He is the first politician from the new member states to occupy that position. This is a sign of how much has changed in Europe in a very short period of time. No one could have predicted twenty years ago that a Pole would be heading the European Parliament.
