Doxa upset AEK to extend their undefeated run to six

Despite being tipped for a relegation struggle after earning a promotion to the top flight last season, Doxa Katokopia continue to surprise, topping AEK 2-1 to extend their undefeated streak to six matches at Larnaca’s GSZ Stadium on Sunday.

“In the first half AEK were better than us as they controlled the ball well and deservedly went ahead,” said Doxa coach Marios Constantinou.

“In the second half we improved, especially in the first 20 minutes. It seemed they were pleased with a 1-0 lead, so we went for it and got the equaliser. They then started to pile on pressure, but we were able to … score again late in the match, not giving them much time to respond.

“We have to remain as serious as we are at the moment, stay down to earth and humble.”

Test for Mancini as City hit choppy waters

Banished from Europe, under attack from Manchester United and struggling to keep Mario Balotelli on the leash, no wonder Roberto Mancini’s coiffured hair is turning grey.

Having masterminded Manchester City’s first English title for more than 40 years last season, after ending their long trophy drought by winning the FA Cup 12 months earlier, the Italian might have anticipated some smooth waters this season.

They are turning increasingly choppy, however, following United’s last-gasp 3-2 victory in the derby, after which Mancini could not resist pointing the finger at some of his players.
