Federer and Serena power into quarter-finals

Roger Federer delivered a lesson to the next generation at the Australian Open, extending his record to a 35th consecutive grand slam quarter-final after Serena Williams set up a clash with her would-be successor.

Anorthosis fail to increase lead after goalless Apollon clash

Cyprus League leaders Anorthosis failed to increase their lead at the top of the standings after a goalless draw against Apollon at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Larnaca, while AEL lost their cutting edge as they allowed Olympiakos to score late and battle out a 1-1 draw in Round 18 closer.

Australian Open doubles campaign ends for Baghdatis

Marcos Baghdatis and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov failed to make it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open doubles, losing to Colombian tandem Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 7-6(6), 7-6(5) in the third round on Monday.

Baghdatis and Dimitrov fought bravely against the Colombians as neither duo faced a break point on serve in the match.

However, it was Cabal and Farah who eventually squeaked by in both tie-breaks to advance in one hour and 41 minutes.

This was only the fourth time that Baghdatis had played Grand Slam doubles and it is his best result so far.

He is now off to PBZ Zagreb Indoors in Croatia where he won his only career doubles title last season, alongside Russian Mikhail Youzhny.
