No clue yet as to fuel leak

LARNACA municipality was yesterday still at a loss concerning the origin of a fuel leak detected during construction work in the Drosia area.

The authorities suspect the leak, which was spotted during work on Larnaca’s sewerage system last Thursday, came from a neighbouring petrol station.

“We started our own investigation in co-operation with inspectors from the labour office,” Larnaca Mayor Andreas Louroudjiadis told the Cyprus Mail yesterday. “The petrol station’s owner is also expected to conduct his own investigation.”

There are two petrol stations close to where the leak was found.

The other station’s owner acted immediately after being notified about the leak, Louroudjiadis said on Tuesday, and the results showing no faults were out within 48 hours.

Motorbike stolen after keys left in ignition

POLICE yesterday issued a warning to all motorbike owners to ensure they take all necessary security measures, after a 29-year-old from Larnaca, having left his keys in the ignition, had his high-powered motorbike stolen.

According to the force, the 29-year-old said his €2,000 black GILERA, 200cc bike – with a KTF 304 number plate – was stolen from outside his house in Larnaca on Wednesday. 

The police called on anyone who may have information on the motorbike’s whereabouts to contact Athienou police station, the nearest police station or the civilians’ hotline on 1460. They could also call 112 or 199.

Under-aged driver

A 15-YEAR-OLD Limassol girl, driving her 25-year-old sister’s car, crashed into a parked car when she lost control of the vehicle, police said yesterday.

The accident occurred on Patroklos Street in Limassol at around 5.45pm on Saturday. The teenager was driving while her older sister sat in the passenger seat when, due to the 15-year-old’s inexperience, she lost control of the vehicle and ended up swerving on to a pavement, driving across a field and ended up in a garage, where she collided with 41-year-old man’s parked car.

No one was injured in the accident although both cars were damaged. The 15-year-old was submitted to an alcohol test which recorded a reading of zero.

The two sisters were charged in writing and released to be called at a later day.
